Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
This policy explains what information Etzem collects, how we use it, and what rights you have. We believe in transparency — you deserve to know exactly what happens with your data.
1.Introduction
This Privacy Policy applies to all services operated by Etzem, including the Etzem website (etzem.org), the Jewish Community Server on Discord, and any related tools, bots, or platforms we provide.
We're a community organization, not a data company. We collect the minimum information necessary to run a safe, verified Jewish community — and nothing more.
2.Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
Discord profile data
When you interact with our services through Discord (including OAuth login), we may receive your Discord username, user ID, avatar, and email address associated with your Discord account.
Verification responses
During our verification process, you provide answers to questions about your background and connection to the Jewish community. This information is used solely for the purpose of community verification.
Usage analytics
We collect basic, anonymized analytics on how our website is used — such as page views, referral sources, and general geographic region. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users.
Messages and content
Messages you send in our Discord server are stored by Discord per their own policies. Our moderation tools may log specific messages flagged for rule violations.
3.How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Verify new members and maintain the safety of our community
- Moderate our Discord server and enforce community guidelines
- Improve our services, website, and community experience
- Communicate with you about your membership, account, or community updates
- Prevent abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing to third parties, or any purpose unrelated to running the Etzem community.
5.Data Retention
We retain your verification data for as long as you remain a member of our community. If you leave the server or request removal, we will delete your verification data within a reasonable timeframe.
Moderation logs (such as warnings, bans, and flagged content) may be retained longer for community safety purposes, even after a member leaves.
You can request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us through Discord (see Section 12).
7.Third-Party Services
Our services rely on the following third-party providers, each with their own privacy policies:
- Discord — Our primary community platform. Subject to Discord's Privacy Policy
- Vercel — Hosts our website. Subject to Vercel's Privacy Policy
We may integrate additional services in the future. When we do, we'll update this policy accordingly. We evaluate third-party services for their privacy practices before adoption.
8.Children's Privacy
Our services are not intended for children under 13 years of age, consistent with Discord's Terms of Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 is using our services, please contact us.
9.Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Deletion — Request that we delete your personal data from our systems
- Portability — Request your data in a structured, commonly used format
To exercise any of these rights, reach out to us through our Discord server. We'll respond to requests within a reasonable timeframe — typically within 30 days.
Note that some data (such as moderation logs) may be retained even after deletion requests, where necessary for community safety.
10.Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes limiting access to verification data to authorized staff members and using secure platforms for data storage.
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you become aware of a security issue, please contact us immediately.
11.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, services, or legal requirements. When we make significant changes, we'll notify our community through Discord and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12.Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, want to exercise your data rights, or have a privacy concern, please reach out through our Discord server. You can contact staff directly through our support channels or by opening a modmail ticket.
